DMV

I was stuck at the DMV for way too long Saturday morning. I didn't think it was possible but I can get tired of drawing people. That place will suck away your desire to live. It's an edificial dementor.

March

Another sketch portrait. On wobbly paper. Note to self. Stop drawing on wobbly paper.

Sonmi-451

Sketch of Sonmi-451 from David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas.

I committed the cardinal sin of leaving my drawing within three feet of the ground. I stepped away for a minute and my daughter stepped in and did some extra pen work on the face for me.

Post It

Slow transfers at work = lots of illustrated Post It notes everywhere.

Fluid

This is my rough sketch for a scene in the opening of the book Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey. The imagery in that book is INCREDIBLE. This is the character Juliette Andromeda Mao. In the first chapter Juliette's ship is captured, her crew members murdered, and it's all due to a mysterious dark fluid.

Church Folk: Me

I was home sick today, so the congregation was composed of me and the cat. I started drawing the cat but half way through, he jumped off the bed and walked away. Good for nothing animal...
So I drew myself.

Popularity

Saw this girl among a big group of friends on the metro a few days ago. Her hair was this bright, probably brighter.

Church Folk: young and old

My pen died in the middle of the service which is why these are so scratchy. I was so sad. The lady speaker had the most beautiful black hair.

Here's some of what I heard while drawing-

We often seek to command/control others when not in control of ourselves. This resonated with me as a parent.

God requires action of us.
He guides us but does not decide for us.

Wait upon the Lord. Real growth and change takes time.

Suspense

Here's part of an illustration I did recently for a 3rd grade reader story about a kid who goes on his first mammoth hunt. This is the part in the story when he firsts sees the mammoth tracks and thinks, what have I gotten myself into?

Come back tomorrow to get a look at the mammoths.

Church folk - Tablet

There are a fair number of tablet readers at church. Makes me jealous.

Metro Ride

I rode the metro yesterday. I love sleepy metro people. They stay still and don't mind you drawing them.

Mistborn - Vin

I started the book Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. I'm not very far yet. Just a first couple chapters in. Here's the character Vin as she first appears. Lowly, barely surviving, paranoid, gaunt, beaten, etc. etc. It's been a rough life. I expect things are going to get a lot better for her. Any worse and she'd be dead.

Life with scarlet fever

What we thought was Fifth's Disease turned out to be scarlet fever. R was covered with bright red pox. It's been sad days filled with some happy oatmeal baths.

Baby hair

My daughter still has light fluffy goes everywhere baby hair.

Going In

We went into DC to visit the National Gallery. While waiting for the train I sketched My husband holding onto both kids.
Once we got on the train I was able to sketch my daughter looking out the window.

Happy New Year!

We entered the new year sick, tired, and grateful that we survived another 365 days.
Since my husband, both kids and I were all running fevers I took the liberty of not doing my hair today. My hair really wishes it could be in a bad eighties movie. Left alone, it always goes for that fluffy wavy flip back look.
